We decided to participate in the 48 Hour Film Project and took on the challenge of creating a movie from beginning to end within 48 hours. With a superb cast & crew consisting of highly experienced, talented and ambitious creative people, we managed to surpass our wildest dreams and created ‘Comme Tu Veux’. In our opinion this 48th hour little pressure cooker was a perfect example of ‘collaborative communication’.

Concept komt van Studio Polder, het ontwerpbureau dat ook mijn website heeft gerealiseerd.
Het was een succesvolle dag, met een heerlijke prosecco als ideale afsluiter. Eindresultaat volgt nog, hier alvast een kijkje achter de schermen..

Modder en schrammen

Voor een nieuwe campagne van een klant waar ik de naam nog even geheim van moet houden, kon ik mij goed uitleven met de visagie. Schrammen, roetvlekken, modder, zweet en bloed werden nagebootst en het resultaat was goed!
Het was weer een lekker dagje met fotografie van Daniel J Ashes en de 178 aardige ontwerpers.

Voor een shoot van Lavital (die onlangs een Fairtrade keurmerk hebben gekregen voor hun van natuurlijk materiaal gemaakte bedden) was ik in een pruimen - en appelboomgaard. Met knisperend wit bedlinnen en verse croissantjes had de hele crew zin om zo om 08.00 uur in de morgen in het bed te duiken. Maar nee, er moest gewerkt worden. In deze setting is dat geen ramp.

Voor de documentaire The Powerful Wisdom of the Heart van opkomend filmmaker Baptist de Pape verzorg ik de visagie van de geinterviewden. Boeiend en soms ook leerzaam om naast mijn werk mee te luisteren naar wat o.a. Eric Pearl en John Demartini hebben te zeggen. Laatstgenoemde is een mental coach en internationaal spreker en een graag geziene gast bij Oprah.

Cool versus Cruel

Naast mijn freelance werk help ik Bont voor Dieren, zoals recent nog tijdens een modeshow van Furlab georganiseerd door het Nederlands Bont Instituut.

Mede dankzij heldinnen als actrices Georgina Verbaan en Sanne Vogel die de vrieskou trotseerden en mee demonstreerden werd deze actie van Bont voor Dieren een succes en breed uitgemeten in de landelijke pers. Later werd Georgina verkozen tot meest Coole Bontgenoot vanwege haar onvermoeibare inzet voor een diervriendelijker en bontvrije wereld. Georgina ontving van Bont voor Dieren een mooie zilveren actie button gemaakt en gedoneerd door vriendin en sieradenontwerpster Froukje van Avoird www.frouks.nl

Wat perfect om te vrijwilligen en mijn werk als stylist/visagist en producer te kunnen toepassen! Helemaal toen ik actrice Karin van Holst-Pellekaan mocht omtoveren tot Koningin Beatrix voor de Cool versus Cruel actie. Compleet met pruik, sjieke hoed en zelfgemaakte sjerp zag ze er koninklijk uit, vooral op de lokatie pal voor Paleis het Noordeinde. Op die lokatie nam zij de oorkonde voor Domste Bontje in ontvangst.

Bont voor Dieren wil mensen via de verkiezing Cool versus Cruel bewust maken van het vreselijke dierenleed dat aan bont kleeft – en de bekende Nederlanders wijzen op hun voorbeeldfunctie.
In totaal zijn er bijna 15.000 stemmen uitgebracht. Van de stemmers verkoos maar liefst 41% koningin Beatrix als de bontdrager die het slechtste voorbeeld gaf.
Koningin Beatrix draagt vossenbont terwijl haar handtekening nota bene onder een wet staat die de productie van vossenbont in Nederland verbiedt vanwege het ernstige dierenleed. Maar blijkbaar haalt zij haar vossenbont vervolgens simpelweg uit het buitenland. Dat is weliswaar niet onwettig, maar er spreekt wel een zekere minachting uit voor onze normen en waarden ten opzichte van dieren. Wij willen haar nogmaals oproepen om geen bont meer te dragen.

ADE versus Poetry

O..o.. So I guess I have to pay my dues for partying too much during Amsterdam Dance Event. Stuck at home with the flue right now. For as long it ain't the Mexican I'll be fine.
I went to a couple of parties with party-partner in crime Roos and my New York friend Ove aka Oveous Maximus. He's also a very talented poet/rapper and was temporary here for ADE. I connected him to poetry organisation Poëziecircus in Utrecht. We arranged a workshop given by Ove which turned out to be a great succes. It was lovely to see such passioned and talented writers. I love connecting people.

This time it was Gouden Kalf winning actress Maria Kraakman and writer Nilgun Yerli. And yes.. they all wear the same mensuit Huub was wearing. I love the "women in mensuit" look, it gives them power and nonchalance. By the way.. this is just a pre glimpse, not the final choice..

Location scouting

Over the years I did a lot of location scouting for several clients such as Nationale Nederlanden, KPMG and PGGM. From messy student room to hospital, I've got the connections and the pics.
This part of my job I find interesting, cause it takes me to several places I usually never come, like for instance the alarm center I was in yesterday for KPN. And all I had to do was call 112! ;)))

Back from Ibiza

Just came back from my holiday at the beautiful island Ibiza.
Though I've been there for some years, I found Ibiza much more commercialised, unfortunately. But there are still some pretty places and beaches where you can enjoy the silence, view, sea and sun, such as Atlantis and Es Vedra.
The old town of Ibiza, Eivissa, is still as breathtaking as ever and it's a pleasure to wonder around it's quiet, narrow streets. And while the party people are doing their thing on the dancefloor, I'm already dreaming of another lazy day at the beach..

Sometimes a day of work brings along little pleasures, like last friday; a ride with a speedboat brought us to this quiet amazing place at the water of IJburg to portrait a wakeboarder for NRC.
After a lunch at Blijburg we went to the Muziekhuis aan het IJ for another pic. Of course when all was finished we couldn't leave the big sunny terrace of neigbour Starferry aside. I love outdoor shoots, especially when the sun is shining. This one showed me once again that even a crowded metropool city like Amsterdam has it's own quiet treasures. It was the perfect ending of a good week.

Do I really have to choose? I won't. I love styling/make up art/producing/ photography.. and.. as some of you may already know.. I sometimes work as a model, presenter or actress. I've always been told that careerwise it ain't wise to do so much stuff. But why choose? I'm a multi tasker. This is what I like and who I am.. and luckily.. it's much more accepted nowadays.
We're the Slash/Slash generation. And as someone beautifully said:
"The reward is a fullness of life that is not constrained to a singular career identity and the ability to adapt to new contexts, new cultures and new social and economic realities"
Amen!

Inspiring weekend

Yes.. de Parade is back in town!! Of course we had to visit this colourful travelling theatre festival at it's first weekend. It was a warm evening and the perfect setting for lover Patrick to experiment with his new camera the Olympus Pen (a digital camera in analog disguise )
Coffee at the Parade.. I just love black and white pictures and the old grainy look of this.

Sunday was the day of Urban music festival Appelsap at the Oosterpark. I especially digged UK DJ/producer Benji-B's beats.. and no.. not cause it's the petname of my petrabbit ;) I just looove a good beat!
Uhh.. did I mention we had our own little act called the one eyed banditas??

Had an interview for CBW Magazine. They asked me about my favourite interior shops and restaurants all over the world, but also asked me to give some decorating and styling advice. It was fun to do! Badgley Mischka are 2 American designers who have joined forces and create glamourous evening wear for celebrities such as Catharine Zeta Jones and Jennifer Lopez. Today they showed their latest collection at the Amsterdam International Fashion Week. I found the crowd more inspiring as their collection.. a bit too much ruffles for me and I still find that less is more.. I did like some of their kaftan inspired dresses they showed... they make me long for sunny beaches. Had a sunny afternoon on a terrace later though.. with sweet friend Naomi who joined me this day. It's summer in Amsterdam.. yeah!

One of the companies I work for is Solidfloor
All floors have a FSC label, which is so important, for every wooden furniture or floor you buy. I have a beautiful oak floor by Solidfloor myself.
Last 2 weeks I did some art direction and production for some of their pics. Together with setstylist Angelique Diks and photographer Marc Dorleijn we came to a satisfying result.

How to make food look pretty

Started this week with a (food)styling job. As a stylist I was in charge of the set and linen. For a change the shoot wasn't in a studio, but at the house of the foodstylist and so we build up the set in the livingroom surrounded by kidstoys. The daylight was beautiful so it turned out to be a pretty good shoot. But I gotta say.. at the end of the day I always feel a little nauseous after being surrounded by so much food and being too weak to take my hands off of it...

Hmmm... will this lilac colour go well with pumpkin?...

Farah Fawcett was known for her beauty, acting skills and of course.. her beautiful BIG hair.
When I'm in the hairdressers chair I always ask for a Charlie's Angels/Farah Fawcett haircut.

I loved it that at last nights party in club Trouw the VJ gave his tribute to Farah showing all her beautiful pictures. Here's one. Rest in Peace Farah.

Jade Jagger - Queens of Teens collection

Last monday I was invited to the fashion show of designer Jade Jagger at club/restaurant Trouw, Amsterdam. Her Queens of Teens collection was a bit punk and eighties and I loved the indian feather hats she showed. Maybe I will wear one during my coming holiday this september in Jade's homeland Ibiza.. What do you think?

I've recently started to make portraits of friends using a Canon EOS 1000D, a simple but good camera. Cutie Bras was the first to strike his pose. Doesn't the grey/blue background make his baby eyes look even more blue? I'm telling you.. this one's gonna be a heartbreaker... ;)

Last month I was invited by good friend and designer Madeleine to join her on her working trip to Bali, Indonesia. Of course I couldn't say no, I've been to Bali before and I found the people, nature and Balinese art incredible and really worth a second visit. Lucky for me Madeleine goes to Bali very often, so she was the perfect guide, knowing all the hotspots (and the no-go's!)

So.. if you ever have plans to visit this beautiful island, here are some places not to miss:

Beach beach beach.. Bali's beaches are beautiful.. dolphins are often spotted at Lovina and the beaches around Seminyak and Legian are wide and feature some good restaurants such as Lanai and Zanzibar. But if you're looking for some more privacy and luxury, go to Nammos Beach Club. Enjoy the beautiful water of the Indian Ocean while sipping a cocktail or enjoying a delicious lunch.

Some of the best meals I had in my life.. I had in Bali. Balinese people make food with love and attention.. and that you can taste. One of the best Italian restaurants in Seminyak are:
Ultimo and Trattoria

For nightlife Ku De Ta is still one of the finest places to go. Located on the beach this hotspot gives you beach, food and music all day long.

And now.. let's talk shopping..!

Kuta and Legian are crowded with shops where you can get good bargains: simple beach dresses, silk kaftans, sunhats, wooden handpainted bracelets and sunglasses, all for 4 euro or less.

Seminyak has high class shops featuring art and antiques and some of the finest designers.

Bali has retail and wholesale shops, so lots of products you see here can be seen later in the warehouses back home. Lot's of designers manufact their product in Bali and so the Balinese people pick up trends very quickly. Therefore trends are often seen sooner in Bali as back in the west!

No.. I'm not a fan of UGGS, though some people (read:men) can wear them with such nonchalance that I can live with it ;) Editie NL wanted my opinion on men wearing UGGS and how to wear it. As you can see the reporter's outfit doen't go with UGGS and he's not the type.. but although I'm a stylist I still believe people should wear whatever they feel comfortable with, even when it's a UGG(ly) shoe!
